"Even if power were to be restored tonight, the buildings are cold and we would not be able to heat them to an acceptable temperature for classes," Freeston said in a message released at 5 p.m. Sunday.

Tuesday, Nov. 6 will now be a student instructional day instead of a professional development day as originally scheduled. Schools will open Tuesday on a two-hour delay schedule.

District parents are advised to check the North Salem Central School District website for a letter from PQ Principal Mary Johnson and North Salem High Principal Pat Cyganovich regarding plans to support students and staff grieving for the two North Salem boys, Jack Baumler, 11, and Michael Robson, 13, who were killed during Hurricane Sandy.
