“It’s our proudest moment of the year,” said President RoseMaria DosSantos. “It recognizes the hard work and commitment of 11 senior students, one in each area of the curriculum and one who receives the President’s Award.”

DosSantos describes the President’s Award as “the MVP of moral values. It goes to the student chosen by the faculty as the senior who has demonstrated the most passion for a project or subject.”

The other 10 awards, in the form of scholarships, are given for scholastic achievement. Winners choose particular faculty members to present their awards. “The celebration not only represents the recognition of our outstanding student scholars,” she said. “It also pays tribute to our distinguished faculty.”

A highlight of the Celebration of Scholars is the $10,000 raffle. Tickets are $50 each and are tax-deductible. The drawing will be held during the evening, and you do not need to be present to win.

On May 20, the NSFFL will sponsor its Fourth Annual Golf Outing at the Centennial Golf Club in Carmel. It begins at 11 a.m. with registration, use of the driving range and lunch. The shotgun start is at 1 p.m., the cocktail reception begins at 5 and dinner follows. The price is $250 per golfer, or $75 for cocktails and dinner only.

The NSFFL also sponsors grants to teachers and students who wish to pursue a special project. Last year, for example, kindergarten teacher Jane Burdett was given a grant to purchase three iPads, used to improve the communication skills of her special education children.

It also sponsored a basketball game between the professional Harlem Wizards and the North Salem Dream Team made up of faculty members.

The group invites all those interested in promoting the success of North Salem schools to become a Friend of The Foundation. The membership form allows for various levels of contribution. New this year is the opportunity to honor or commemorate a favorite teacher with a contribution in any amount.

Ads for the Celebration of Scholars program are available at $25 for a half-page and $50 for a full page. The deadline is May 7.
