Hauser, the district's assistant superintendent for Pupil Personnel Services, will continue in her post until Jan. 20.
Asked why she is leaving, Hauser cited a long-distance situation with her husband, who works in Colorado but travels back and forth. Discussing the situation, Hauser said, “we want to be together.”
Hauser has had the same basic position during her time in North Salem, although it was elevated from a director job to an assistant superintendent post. Her role, she explained, includes special education, title grants and students who are home schooled.
Hauser, who was presented with gifts and praised by school board members at their meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 7.
For example, School Board President Deborah D'Agostino, reacted to Hauser's upcoming departure by saying, “we're all pretty sad about that, MaryJo.”
Taking over for Hauser will be Jan Yablow, whose career includes four decades of special-education experience. Yablow, and who previously served as a regional supervisor for the New York State Department of Education, is serving as interim director of Pupil Personnel Services and Special Education.
Yablow was present at the school board's meeting when Hauser was honored.
“I started already and I am delighted to be here," he said.
