NORTH SALEM, N.Y. -- Although early unofficial results showed Democrat Martin Aronchick ahead in the North Salem Town Board special election, the number of uncounted absentee ballots is considerably greater than his lead.
According to the Westchester County Board of Elections, North Salem has 69 uncounted absentee ballots. Meanwhile, the Board of Elections currently gives Aronchick a 19-vote lead over Republican William Monti, who was appointed to the seat.
The special election, triggered by the death of Bruce Buchholtz, is for the remainder of the seat's term.
The unofficial results show Aronchick with 843 votes (51 percent) to Monti's 824 (49 percent).
The absentee ballot figure was released in response to a request from Daily Voice.
