Later the same day, another resident complained of a pit bull running on her property and frightening the children. Cullen advised the dog’s owner that the dog must be kept in a confined area, police said. Animal Control Officer Trish Gallagher noted that it was the second complaint in two weeks.
Still later in the day, Cullen checked back and found the black lab running loose. Officer Gallagher responded to the location and issued an appearance ticket to the dog’s owner, police said.
The North Salem Police also reported the following incidents:
Car Vandalism: On March 26 Sgt. Neil Caputo responded to a report of vandalism to cars parked at Back Street. Investigation showed damage to several vehicles, including broken side mirrors, a dented roof and scratches on the doors. Caputo notified the officer on patrol to watch for a culprit or culprits.
Unauthorized Vehicle: On Monday the owner of a private parking area near the Croton Falls train station complained of an unauthorized vehicle parked on his property. Sgt. Andrew Brown provided the property owner with the name and contact information of the car’s owner, so that the owner could follow up. This was the second offense by the same person. Brown advised the owner of the parking area on how to arrange for legal towing procedures in the future.
Operation Safeguard: The North Salem Police participated in “Operation Safeguard” during the holiday week. Police conducted 39 inspections of North Salem’s transit facilities and found no suspicious activity.
