NORTH SALEM, N.Y. A bat found its way into the Westchester Exceptional Children's School on Friday, Aug. 3, and roosted in the auditorium. Executive Director Linda Zinn moved quickly to lock the room and then called the Board of Health and B&L Wildlife, a wildlife removal company with offices in Carmel.
On the advice of the Board of Health she telephoned the North Salem police, who responded along with a trooper from the New York State Police. The officers managed to trap the bat within a window, where it was left to await the arrival of B&L and its humane bat trap.
The following incident also was reported by North Salem police:
Possible Gunfire: Residents on Oak Ridge Road heard noises in the nearby woods that they believed were gunshots. Officer Ralph Argiento canvassed the nearby houses to ask if anyone else had heard the noises. Four neighbors said they had heard popping sounds two, three or four but each had concluded that they were caused by fireworks. No one was sure of where the sounds originated. Argiento walked the surrounding area in search of evidence but found nothing relevant.
The following incident was reported by the New York State Police:
DWI: The state police responded to a report of a vehicle driving erratically in North Salem on Monday and stopped a car driven by John V. O'Brien, 39, of New Fairfield, Conn. O'Brien was found to be intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of 0.13 percent, police said. He was issued uniform tickets and is scheduled to appear in North Salem Town Court at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 13.
