NORTH SALEM, N.Y. Two North Salem teenagers were charged with attacking other teens with a metal bat and wrench during a fight June 29 in a Route 22 parking lot in Southeast, the Putnam County Sheriffs Office reports.
The fight involved roughly four dozen people, the sheriff's office said.
Jonathan Owoo, 19, of North Salem, was charged with first-degree assault, a class B violent felony, and second-degree assault, a class D violent felony, plus two counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class A misdemeanor. He is accused of striking and seriously injuring two other teens with a metal baseball bat, according to police.
The second boy, 17, was charged with first-degree assault, a class B felony and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class A misdemeanor. Police said that he is accused of using a socket wrench to attack another teen, causing serious injury.
The victims were taken to Danbury Hospital by members of the Brewster Fire Department.
Owoo was taken into custody later the same day at his North Salem home by members of the sheriffs office, assisted by New York State Police. The 17-year-old was also taken into custody. They were arraigned before Brewster Village Justice Richard ORourke and remanded to Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $75,000 bail or a $150,000 secured bond.
They are scheduled to appear at the Southeast Justice Court at 1 p.m. on July 19. In addition, orders of protection were issued on behalf of the victims.
If convicted of the most serious charges, the teens could be sentenced to prison for a period of up to 25 years.
