NORTH SALEM, N.Y. The new traffic signs along Wallace Road in North Salem were damaged, a passing motorist told Sgt. Andrew Brown while he was on radar patrol on Thursday morning.
Brown found that the caution signs and reflectors had been torn away and tangled together to create a teepee formation. The sculpture was placed atop a speed hump in the middle of the road. Brown reported the incident to the New York State Police.

Police were called to Whos Cooking in Croton Falls at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday to investigate a report of an intoxicated person. A woman there said she had been drinking wine in the afternoon and concerned people in the shop said they had confiscated her car keys. Officer Frank Lynch located the womans car, improperly parked in front of the gourmet shop. He then notified the State Police, who took over the case.
A resident of Valeria Circle told police that some of her credit cards had been used without her authority. Fraudulent charges totaled $1,962 at Macys, $1,200 at Kohls and $1,612 on another card. The victim notified each credit company and opened an Equifax Credit Protection account.
A Finch Road resident found his mailbox bashed and discarded near the street Wednesday. He reported that a wooden nameplate had also been removed.
Sgt. Andrew Brown was directed to the North Salem Post Office on June Road on Thursday to deal with a bat that had found itself a home in the vestibule. Brown scooped it into a box and placed it, uncovered, at the edge of the rear parking lot. A later check proved the bat had found its way free.
After several complaints of speeding cars in the Daniel Road and Hilltop Drive areas, North Salem police monitored traffic along both roads during the past week. Officers found that the vast majority of cars drove either within the speed limit or less than 10 mph faster than the limit.
