Sept. 7-8: From 5 p.m. Saturday to 11 a.m. Sunday. Eastbound traffic on I-84 will be closed between Exit 20 (New York) and Exit 1 (Connecticut). Traffic will be diverted to Route 6.
Sept.14-15: From 5 p.m. Saturday to 11 a.m. Sunday. Westbound traffic on I-84 will be closed between Exit 1 (Connecticut) and Exit 20 (New York). Traffic will be diverted to Route 6.
In case of heavy rainfall, the schedule will be changed.
The New York State Department of Transportation will begin a widespread media campaign in August, including mailings to addresses in local Zip codes. However, September attracts many out-of-towners to this area for apple-picking and Old Salem Horse Shows.
North Salem Police request that you advise friends or acquaintances of the closures so that they can study the detour or plan an alternate route in advance.
The North Salem Police also reported the following incidents:
- While a woman on Hardscrabble Road prepared to get out of her car on June 27, she gave the keys to her 20-month-old daughter, strapped in a child-seat in the rear. While jingling the keys, the child accidentally locked the car doors, stranding her mother outside and the baby inside. The clicking sound of the locks frightened the child, who became upset and dropped the keys to the floor. Although passersby tried to help, it was Sgt. Andrew Brown who came to the rescue with a locksmith tool. No one was injured.
- On June 23, a motorcyclist on Wallace Road hit a pot hole just before reaching a speed bump and was thrown to the ground. The North Salem Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported the biker to Danbury Hospital to be treated for minor bleeding and an upper-arm/shoulder injury.
