NORTH SALEM, N.Y. A 13-year-old camper at Mountain Lakes Parks Camp Morty became emotionally disturbed and threatened counselors with a metal object on the afternoon of July 3, according to a police report.
New York State Trooper Tim Gleason responded to an emergency call and subdued the boy with the assistance of North Salem Police. Westchester County Police also responded to the incident and arranged for the North Salem Volunteer Ambulance Corps to transport the boy to the Westchester Medical Center.
The following incidents were also reported by North Salem Police:
- A blue and white bicycle was found abandoned on a Park Lane lawn on Sunday. The homeowner telephoned the North Salem Police, who stored the bike at the police department. The owner may call (914) 669-5540 to identify and claim the property.
- A woman was driving along Route 22 late Sunday evening when her car was suddenly hit by a head of lettuce, causing damage to the right headlight. North Salem Police arrived at the scene and found numerous shreds of lettuce, onion, chunks of tomato, slices of chicken and other debris in the road. Officer Frank Lynch interviewed a nearby Valeria Circle resident, who said he and some friends had been lounging around his pool. They had heard some noises, he said, but had no further knowledge of the incident.
- A driver along Alice Road crashed into some mail boxes Friday afternoon, lost control of his vehicle and ended up in a ditch on Fields Lane. The incident was investigated by Trooper Gleason, assisted by Officer James DePaoli of the North Salem Police. The driver was charged with DWI.
- A Collins Brothers Moving van with an Indiana license plate broke down around dinnertime on the evening of July 5 at the intersection of Routes 121 and 116, blocking clear access to the roads. Officer Paul Smith attended the incident and directed traffic until Brysons towing arrived with a heavy duty wrecker to tow the tractor-trailer away.
