Chermayeff dedicated her professional career to the arts, museums and children. She had 30 years experience developing projects that also involved nature and history.
She was president and founder of Architectural Playground Equipment Inc., U.S. representative for Richter Spielgeräte GmbH, the specialty German playground equipment company. Recent APE projects include Brooklyn Bridge Park and Beauvoir Outdoors at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.
She was a member of the New York Studio School, the Museum Group, the Conservation Trust of Puerto Rico and the Century Association.
Chermayeff is survived by her husband, Ivan; son Sam; brother Tom; sister Ann; stepchildren Catherine, Maro and Sasha; as well as five grandchildren.
She will be remembered for her generous spirit and passion, qualities cited by longtime friends and Daily Voice Founder and CEO Carll Tucker.
"Jane was a dear friend and one of the most vital, engaging, imaginative, gracious, and effervescent people we have ever known," Tucker said. "With her death, a candle has gone dark."
In lieu of customary remembrances, contributions in Chermayeff's memory may be directed to the charity of one's choice.
