Harris Valden, 83, Formerly Of North Salem

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – Harris E. Valden of Hudson, Mass., and formerly of North Salem, died Sept. 1 at Marlborough Hospital in Marlborough, Mass. He was 83.  

He was born Dec. 4, 1929, in Ridgefield, Conn., to David Harvey and Florence Heady Valden. He graduated from North Salem High School and served in the Army during the Korean War. Valden was a retired salesman with wireless electronics. 

He enjoyed boating and water-skiing at his lake house in Hudson for more than 40 years, as well as his collection of hot-rod cars. He never missed a day reading the daily newspaper, his family said. 

Valden is survived by 11 nieces and nephews, Florence Morgensen, Helena Ripperger, Diane Valden, Carolyn Dobrowsky, Sharon Cramer, Suzanne Light, David J. Valden, Robert Valden, Stuart Valden, Keith Valden and David H. Valden; and two sisters-in-law.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Robert H., Stuart and Donald Valden; and a niece, Karen Porcheron. 

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday at Beecher Funeral Home in Brewster, N.Y.  A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Ridgefield Cemetery.
