Ernie Kidd, 96, Of North Salem

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – Ernie Kidd of North Salem died Oct. 21 at Danbury Hospital in Connecticut. He was 96. 

Kidd was born Aug. 7, 1916, in Liverpool, England, to Harry and Margaret Lloyd Kidd. He graduated from British schools and served in the British Army. Kidd married Phyllis Jenkins on Feb. 25, 1939, in Liverpool. She predeceased him on Oct. 30, 2000. 

After immigrating to the U.S. in 1949, Kidd worked as a maitre d’ at Orienta Beach Club in Larchmont, N.Y., and later at Abe Levin’s, also in Larchmont. He retired in 1994. He volunteered at the Drew Methodist Church Thrift Shop in Carmel, N.Y., and enjoyed sitting on his deck while listening to music. 

Kidd also enjoyed walking his dogs, Buttons and Mellow. He lived in Larchmont for many years and enjoyed traveling to his summer home on Peach Lake in North Salem. After his retirement, he moved to North Salem permanently. 

He is survived by three children, Robert B. (Suzanne) Kidd, of Wakefield, R.I., Gregory N. (Kate) Kidd, of Louisville, Colo., and Leslie M. Sharkey, of North Salem; a sister, Joan Marsden, of Bristol, England; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. 

Visitation is from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Beecher Funeral Home in Brewster, N.Y. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Peach Pond Cemetery in North Salem.
