NORTH SALEM, N.Y. Plant sales, yoga, musicales and pet adoptions are some of the events planned for the weekend in North Salem.
Friday, May 18
New Leaf for Lasdon Fundraiser: 5:30 to 8 p.m. As a preface to Lasdons annual Sustainable Plant Sale, the Friends of Lasdon Park and Arboretum is sponsoring a wine and hors doeuvres party in honor of JoAnn DiRico Trautmann, coordinator of the Westchester County Cornell Cooperative Extensions master gardener program. Guests are invited to take first choice of the plants going for sale Saturday. Tickets are $25 per person and guests are offered a 20 percent discount on plant purchases. American Bandstand: 7 p.m. The North Salem Madrigals and the North Salem PTO invite you to see a star-studded special broadcast of American Bandstand. A light supper will be served at 7 p.m. and the broadcast follows at 8 p.m. The price is $10 at the door. The event takes place in the North Salem High School gym located at 230 June Road.

Yoga in the Garden: 9 to 10 a.m. Ridgefields Garden of Ideas will hold outdoor yoga classes every Saturday morning, weather permitting, under the leadership of certified yoga instructor Kelli Nairn. Reservations are not necessary but would be appreciated. A $10 donation is requested and will be donated to the garden. Sustainable Garden Plant Sale: 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Hundreds of top-quality plants will be on sale, ready to be set out in your garden or in containers on your porch or patio. Expert gardeners will be on hand to answer questions and give advice. All proceeds benefit horticultural programs. Lasdon Farm and Arboretum is on Route 35 in Somers.
Conversation and Coffee with Expert Gardeners: 10 a.m. Gather with old friends or make some new ones as you discuss your gardening problems and ideas with local experts. There is no registration and no fee. The Ruth Keeler Memorial Library is located at 276 Titicus Road, North Salem.
A Buggy Story Time: 10:30 a.m. Children of all ages are intrigued with bugs. Come to hear some stories and make a buggy craft. The Ruth Keeler Memorial Library is at 276 Titicus Road, North Salem.
Adopt a Pet: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Its Spring Adoption Weekend at the Putnam Humane Society. Festivities will include face-painting, door prizes and refreshments. Adopt a pet and receive a free gift. Puppy Mill Protest: 2 p.m. Sen. Greg Balls Animal Advisory Council, the Putnam Humane Society and the Westchester SPCA will host a protest against New York State puppy mills. Gather at Bailey Park at Routes 100 and 202 in Somers.
Lobster Fest in Somers: 6 to 9 p.m. Gather under the big white tent to enjoy a dinner of steamed lobster, corn on the cob and baked potatoes. The lobsters are coming directly from Maine. The cooks are strictly local but talented. If you reserve ahead, the price is $20 per dinner. The price at the door is $24. Single lobsters may be purchased for takeout at $15 each. Westchester Bluegrass Club: Doors open at 6 p.m. The jam session starts at 7 p.m., open mic starts at 8 p.m., and the evenings guest performer, Jim Hurst will go on at 9 p.m. Hurst has toured the world with major stars such as Dolly Parton, Trisha Yearwood and Claire Lynch. Hurst will also do a guitar workshop. The price for the workshop is $30. Admission to the evening of bluegrass is $15. Refreshments will be served. Symphony of Peace Prayers: 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This month's Interfaith Sunday Service will focus on world peace and will be held in alignment with a grand event taking place the same day at Japan's Mount Fuji.
