NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - The PQ Spring Gala, World Tai Chi Day and a Walk for Autism are some of the events planned for the weekend.
Friday, April 27
PQ Spring Gala: 7-11 p.m. The Pequenakonck School PTOs springtime fundraiser will feature cocktails, dining, dancing, good company and many, many auction items. Tickets are $65 at the door. The gala takes place at the Salem Golf Club on Bloomer Road, North Salem.
Somers Lions Club Carnival: 6 p.m. Rides start at the Somers Lions Club Carnival. There are rides, games, prizes, performers and lots of treats to eat. The event continues throughout the weekend. The event takes place at Firemans Field on Route 202 in Somers.
Saturday, April 28
Walk for Autism: 9 a.m. - noon. Members of the North Salem High School Honor Society will be walking the high school track to raise money to fight autism. Each walker will represent as many as 10 sponsors, who will donate money per lap, or a lump sum for unlimited laps. Forms for sponsorship are available at North Salem Middle/High School, the Ruth Keeler Memorial Library and on the web at www.northsalemschools.org/schools/guidance. Dumpster at WEC: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Westchester Exceptional Childrens School is providing a dumpster for your unwanted stuff. The charge is $20 per carload, $40 per pickup truck. Shredding services are an additional $5. No flammable or hazardous materials and no prescription drugs are allowed. Proceeds go to the school so your contribution is tax deductible. Bring your disposable junk to 520 Route 22 in North Salem.
Second Annual World Tai Chi Day: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tai Chi and Kung Fu demonstrations by world masters, as well as talks about Tai Chi weapons and classical Chinese dance and culture, are just a few of the events that will fill out the day at the Hammond Museum. Shiatsu massage will be available throughout the day and Tibetan healing sounds will resound in the garden. For more information, call (914) 669-5033. Somers Lions Club Carnival: 1 p.m. Rides start at the giant carnival in Firemans Field, Route 202, Somers.
Concert at the Ruth Keeler: 7-9 p.m. The Red Dirt Road Band, featuring Doug Mathewson, Susy Marker, Pat Walker, Bill Petkanas and Missy Alexander will perform a variety of Americana tunes in the bluegrass/country/red dirt/western swing/gospel genres. The concert is sponsored by the Friends of the Library, with a grant from M&T Bank for music programs at the library. The Ruth Keeler Library is at 276 Titicus Road, North Salem. There is no charge.

Spring Migration Bird Walk: 8 a.m. Muscoot Farm invites birders to join naturalist Paul Lewis in a search for warblers and other birds as they migrate home to the farm for spring. There is no charge. Muscoot Farm is on Route 100, 1½ miles south of Route 35 in Somers.
Somers Lions Club Carnival: 1 p.m. Rides start at the final day of the giant carnival in Firemans Field, Route 202, Somers.
Poultry Day at Muscoot: 1-3 p.m. Muscoots junior volunteers will be on hand to teach you about the different breeds of poultry at the farm and why they are kept there. There is no charge. Muscoot Farm is on Route 100, 1½ miles south of Route 35 in Somers.
Open House at Pilates Barre: 3-5 p.m. A trunk show of lululemon athletica athletic apparel will be accompanied by demonstration classes in Barre technique, Pilates on the apparatus and Studio Cycling. Pilates Barre offers classes in Pilates, Barre, Fusion, Yoga and Cycling for both adults and teens. The Pilates Barre is at 28 Prospect St., Ridgefield. For more information, call (203) 438-2222.
