Truck Drivers' Behavior To Be Monitored By State Police

SOMERS, N.Y. - The New York State Police will conduct a special enforcement detail on Tuesday, November 22, aimed at commercial vehicle drivers practicing distracted or aggressive behavior.

Studies have shown that commercial vehicle accidents are most frequently due to driver actions, police report. Ninety percent of the state’s fatalities in 2010 involved a truck. Drivers who use cell phones when they get behind the wheel will also be targeted. 

In a different vehicle related incident, Hector Medina, 23, was arrested in Somers on November 15 when the vehicle in which he was riding was stopped by State Police for equipment irregularities. 

In the course of the investigation, police determined that Medina was in violation of a stay-away Order of Protection. His companion in the vehicle with the subject of the order. Medina initially provided the investigating officer with a false name to avoid discovery. He was remanded to Westchester County Jail in lieu of $3,000 cash bail.
