Tractor-Trailer Stops Traffic in North Salem

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. — Traffic at Route 121 and Route 116 was tied up Thursday afternoon for about an hour after a tractor-trailer leaving Vox Restaurant got stuck. The truck company was notified and sent a service vehicle to use a winch to pull the tractor-trailer out of the roadway.

Homeowner’s False Alarm: Police responded to an activated panic alarm on Valeria Circle at about 12:30 p.m. Friday. Officer Ralph Argiento found no one home, and a search of the house and grounds indicated everything was secure. Neighbors said the homeowner had left a short while earlier. Sgt. Andrew Brown reached the homeowner by telephone. She suggested her child might have set the alarm off by accident.

Shots Possibly Fired: Officer James DePaoli responded to a report of gun shots in the area of Nash Road at about 11:15 p.m. Saturday. North Salem police investigated with the New York State police but could find no indication of gunplay.

Teens Out Late: Officer Dennis Cullen found two minors in a vehicle in the parking lot while doing a routine check of Volunteers Park on June Road at about midnight Saturday. The teens had junior licenses, but a driver with a junior license is required to be accompanied by a licensed driver after 9 p.m. A phone call was made to a parent, who picked up the teens.
