North Salem's Mountain Lakes Gets a Makeover

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - Mountain Lakes Park will be getting a facelift, thanks to the Westchester County Board of Legislators. A $400,000 bond and a $300,000 allotment from the Capital Budget have been allocated to repairs and improvements in the recreational area. The bill will now go to County Executive Robert Astorino for signing.

The bond was sponsored by legislator and Majority Leader Peter Harckham (D - Katonah), who said in a press release, "It's important that we maintain the County parks to the extent that they remain open and ready to be enjoyed for future generations."

The funds will be allocated to improvements in the pool area, including upgrading the mechanical systems, piping, decks, gutters and other details. Additional improvements will be made to electrical wiring in various park facilities.

North Salem's Mountain Lakes Park was officially re-dedicated in 2009 to the memory of Dr. Sal J. Prezioso, who was instrumental in the County's acquisition of the property. He was also responsible for the establishment of the park's Camp Monty, a summer sleepaway camp for disadvantaged children. Dr. Prezioso died in 2008 at the age of 95.

The pool is open to Westchester residents on weekends and when the summer children's camp is not in session. A County park pass is not required for admission.
