NORTH SALEM, N.Y. -- Christopher Woloshyn, a North Salem resident, has become the seventh Eagle Scout in his family.

Woloshyn will have his Eagle Court of Honor on Saturday, June 14, on Flag Day. Woloshyn belongs to Boy Scout Troop 1 in North Salem, which is led by Scoutmaster Jon Jacobson.

The path to become an Eagle Scout takes years, and it is a process that requires much dedication. Scouts have to earn 21 Merit Badges over a wide range of topics, including first aid, lifesaving, camping, cooking and citizenship in the community, to name a few. The pinnacle to obtaining the rank of Eagle is leading and managing a community service project.

For his Eagle Scout project, Woloshyn raised money for materials and supplies, which he and his fellow Scouts then used to beautify and enhance a veterans war memorial by constructing a flagstone patio and planting new foliage. The memorial is at the Westchester Exceptional School in Purdys.

Woloshyn will be working this summer at Camp Read, which is the Westchester-Putnam Council Boy Scout Camp in Brandt Lake. For seven weeks he will be teaching Scouts a range of Merit Badges, which will help them in their journey to achieve the Eagle Scout rank.

The Woloshyn family of Eagles spans over five decades. There are four Eagle Scout brothers, Jeffrey 60, Jay 57, James, 56, and John 52. In addition, Derek 29, the son of Jeffrey, and Stefan, 20, the son of James are also Eagle Scouts.

All of the scouts, family and friends will be in attendance to celebrate Woloshyn's achievement on Saturday, June 14.
