North Salem Schools, Polls Will Be Open Tuesday

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – New York State Electric and Gas Corp. (NYSEG) reports that 771 of its 2,394 North Salem customers remain without power as of 3 p.m., Monday. The company hopes to restore power to about three-quarters of these customers by 11 p.m., Monday. The remaining are expected to have electricity restored by 11 p.m., Tuesday.

A conference call between NYSEG representatives and North Salem town officials is scheduled for Monday afternoon.

Power has been restored to the Town House and all the schools. Superintendent of Schools Ken Freeston reports that schools will open on Tuesday with a two-hour delay. The professional development day originally scheduled for Tuesday is postponed.

The Ruth Keeler Memorial Library is open, with electricity, heat and WiFi service.

The North Salem Volunteer Ambulance Corps building continues to be open during the day on Monday, but no decision has been made yet about whether it will be open overnight.

Tuesday is Election Day and all North Salem polling places will be open. The North Salem Town House will be closed because of the holiday.

The Planning Board meeting scheduled for Wednesday has been postponed.

Town officials thank the Croton Creek Steakhouse, the Farmer and the Fish, the Hygrade Deli and 121 Restaurant for their generous contributions of food during the emergency.
