NORTH SALEM, N.Y. Hundreds of North Salem residents lost power during Thursday evenings storm, but in most cases it was restored during the night. As of 9:30 a.m. Friday, 191 of NYSEGs 2,391 North Salem customers were still waiting for the outage to end.
The main areas affected were Croton Falls, Mills and Bogtown Roads, Deveau Road and a few streets linked to Hardscrabble Road. More information can be obtained online at http://outagemap.nyseg.com/ny/?style=newyork. NYSEGs emergency phone number is 800-572-1131.
Daniel Roads Volunteer Ambulance Corps building was open overnight and continues to be open for anyone who wishes to take advantage of the air-conditioning, the showers and Internet access. Bottled water is available. Dry ice may become available later in the day.
Highway Superintendent Ward Hanaburgh reported that all roads were open for emergency equipment. Highway Department crews cleared roads of debris until 1 a.m. In some cases, it local crews must wait for NYSEG to address problems before they can get to work.
Supervisor Warren Lucas reminded people that generators produce a significant amount of carbon monoxide. If you have a generator near your home, be sure to close any windows in the area.
Lucas also reminded anyone with an electric stove to make sure all burners were in the off position. People sometimes forget to turn stoves off when the power fails, causing dangerous conditions when the power resumes.
