North Salem Police Reports: Amorous Couple at Purdys Field

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – A couple was sitting on a third-base side bench at the Purdys Softball Field on Friday afternoon when Sgt. Andrew Brown drove by. Brown told the couple that they were on school grounds. They agreed to move to a more appropriate location and left the field.

The following items also were reported by North Salem police:

Bicycle Accident: A Saturday bicyclist pedaling at a high speed along Wallace Road suddenly encountered the washboard gravel section of the road and lost control. Officer Paul Smith arrived at the scene to find the cyclist, a visitor from Manhattan, with cuts on his forehead, arms and legs and pain in his right shoulder and hip. The North Salem Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded and transported the injured man to Danbury Hospital in Connecticut.

False Alarm at the Hammond: The alarm system at the Hammond Museum went off in late morning on April 23, summoning police to the site on Deveau Road. Officer Ralph Argiento, along with an officer of the New York State Police, found the rear basement door of the building ajar. A search of the premises and of the outside perimeter showed everything secure.

Labor Protest: Workers at the Waterview Hills Nursing Home were demonstrating Friday at the foot of the home’s driveway on Route 22, when a visitor telephoned police to complain that they were blocking access. Sgt. Andrew Brown drove to the location and found one person on the north side of the driveway and two on the south side. They were not blocking traffic along Route 22, nor were they blocking the driveway. Subsequent patrols by Brown, including a drive-by in his civilian clothes, again showed no blockage of the road or the driveway.

Vehicle Lockout: A woman locked herself out of her car on Baxter Road on Tuesday afternoon. Officer Michael Castellano responded and found the car parked at the side of the road with the motor still running. The officer was able to unlock the vehicle without any damage.
