NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - It has been just one month since The Daily North Salem website was launched. Here are some of the month's highlights:
In the schools, Dr. Tom DiGaetano, won kudos for inspiring students with a passion for science. The O.P.T.I.O.N.S. program helped students choose a field of interest. Students at the high school grew and ate their own organic produce. A heat wave challenged the staff to keep classes cool. The month culminated with Graduation Day at Caramoor and Stepping Up Day at the Exceptional Children's School.
In the political arena, Lisa Douglas demanded equal rights to run on the Republican Ticket, Town Assessor Karen Futia explained her role and the Tax Cap Legislation passed. Board of Education President Katherine Daniels outlined her position on our Opinion Page.
The Garden Conservatory sponsored the annual tour of local gardens and several busloads of real estate agents toured local houses in conjunction with the merger of Prudential Douglas Elliman and local brokers, Holmes and Kennedy.
Croton Falls held its Third Annual Fair and Father's Day interviews proved that kids still love their dads.
Thomas Lemens and Key Burns talked about their roles as therapists and Craig Frank explained zip codes. The "two guys" introduced us to Trouble and Gracie.
The town faced some challenging thunder storms and an annoying power outage. But a greater challenge arrived with the discovery of human remains in the Gaymark Preserve.
The season's first Hunter Pace got under way. The North Salem Bridle Trails Association discussed the dangers of speeding drivers.
Rocky was lost -- and found. The black bear has been seen in the vicinity.
D-Day was recalled by 89-year-old veteran Herb Geller and the Steven Siciliano Blood Drive received nearly 90 pints.
Finally, we said Farewell to Seaman Douglas Barrett, 90, and Belle Ryder, 100.
