North Salem Braces For Nor'easter

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – As another storm settled in the area, the North Salem Highway Department began salting the roads Wednesday afternoon. If the snow continues to accumulate, the Highway Department is prepared to plow the roads as necessary.

As of 3 p.m. Wednesday, New York State Electric & Gas reported that 707 of its 2,394 North Salem customers were without power. The number has increased because of the failure of the substation serving the southern section of North Salem. The new outage affects people along Route 22 and in Purdys. A conference call between town officials and NYSEG was under way Wednesday afternoon.

The North Salem Central School District canceled after-school activities for Wednesday.

Wednesday evening’s session of the North Salem Town Court has been canceled. Rescheduling information will be sent by mail.
