NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – The public is invited to learn more about North Salem’s forthcoming Bridleside Apartments, an affordable housing complex on June Road near Kingsley’s, at a meeting Wednesday, April 3, at the Ruth Keeler Library.
Applications for the lottery are already being accepted. The forms are available online. The deadline for filing is June 20. The lottery drawing will take place June 24.
Eligibility for rental depends upon family income, and the opportunity to rent will be granted by lottery. If you have friends, relatives or children who want to live in North Salem, Supervisor Warren Lucas advises you to let them know about the housing lottery.
Lucas wrote in the North Salem Newsletter: “If you have a home and sell it, 2 percent of the income on the sale is calculated as part of the qualifying family income.” To be eligible for the affordable housing, a family’s income must be within the range of $36,500 to $72,540.
Construction of the first phase is already under way and is expected to be ready for occupancy later this year. Monthly rents will range from $980 to $1,630.
When completed, the entire complex will have 20 one-bedroom units, 40 two-bedroom units and four three-bedroom units. Features and amenities include an electric stove, dishwasher and refrigerator with ice maker, private patios and balconies, a fitness center, laundry facilities, tenant controlled air-conditioning, a clubhouse and van service to the train station and other local destinations. Landscaping will include gardens and walking trails.
More information on affordable housing is available on the Affordable Housing Action Council website.
The Ruth Keeler Memorial Library is at 276 Titicus Road, North Salem. The April 3 meeting runs from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
