NORTH SALEM, N.Y. -- At about 8 a.m. on July 18, a Hardscrabble Road resident reported that her Jack Russell Terrier jumped from her car at the end of her driveway and ran into the woods. Officers searched the area and Animal Control Officer Trish Gallagher was notified. The pet was found some time afterwards.
On Tuesday, another dog caused concern. Police received a report of a loose dog running in the road near the 121 Market on Peach Lake Road. Officer Ralph Argiento questioned people working in the area, but no one had noticed the dog. Officer Argiento canvassed the area along Peach Lake Road, Dingle Ridge Road and Bloomer Road but found nothing.
On Wednesday a Keeler Road resident spotted an animal acting peculiarly and suspected it might be rabid. She reportedly informed the police department. When Sergeant Neil Caputo arrived, the animal had wandered off into the woods.

Officer Paul Smith responded to a report of an intoxicated driver on Bogtown Road, near the scene of the recent barn fire. After interviewing and observing the suspect, a 28-year-old Pound Ridge resident, Officer Smith called state troopers who administered tests and arrested the subject for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol.
A Bloomer Road resident returned home on July 16 to discover her back door open. Unsure whether a family member had forgotten to close it or whether an intruder had entered the house, she telephoned the police. Sgt. Caputo reportedly checked the house and found everything to be secure.
On July 17 at about 1:30 p.m. a June Road resident also discovered his back door open and reported it to the police. Sergeant Caputo checked the house and found everything secure.
A burglar alarm was accidentally activated on July 18, by a landscaper working on Sunset Drive. Police responded to the alarm but found everything secure.
On Wednesday morning a Lakeside Drive resident requested aid for her elderly mother, who suffered from heart problems and was having difficulty breathing. The North Salem Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded and transported the victim to Putnam County Hospital.
A resident reported on July 16 that he had heard approximately five rifle shots near Titicus Reservoir around midnight the night before. He added that he had heard shots on previous occasions. Officer Dennis Cullen questioned a neighbor, who denied any knowledge of the incident.
