I read  “Tale of 2 Nuclear Plants” by Thomas C. Zambito in The Journal News Sunday, May 22, 2016 edition.

I would like to offer the following observations for consideration by my fellow citizens:

The government should not provide any financial inducements, subsidies or tax forgiveness for any type of energy production method.

Every method has its positives and negatives.

Free choice is the foundation of our nation and its economy. Forcing one method over another results in loss of efficiency that would not benefit the user in all aspects.

Government sanctioned financial underpinnings will only bring sloth to the market and result in loss to the environment. The Kyoto Protocols were not signed by the United States, yet we are the only country to exceed the demands of those Protocols.

Free markets and choice bring the best forward.

Forcing people to unwittingly buy one form of energy over another is deceptive. But two examples are the so called co-operatives in league with town governments that make deals with suppliers then people have to opt-out, rather than opt-in and the PSC being in league with political figures to provide money to push one type of energy production over another.

Competition brings the best and most efficient products to market. Did you know that so-called renewables like solar-PV and wind only produce electricity about 20 to 30 percent of the time.

Would you buy a car or appliance that only worked 20 to 30 percent of the time?

Efficiency translates into less waste being generated, hence a cleaner world. I have offered similar comments to the PSC on their financial proposals in Case No. 15-e-0302.

One can comment at their website.

In terms of full disclosure I have been involved with power production from nuclear energy for my entire 35-year professional career. I’ve retired.

I find that much time, money and energy is wasted on the non-productive work of attempting to use the legal system to push the opposite of what engineers can do best, create useful-efficient products to benefit mankind.
