Koser's Venice on Display in North Salem

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - Richard Koser visited Venice for a long weekend. “It was an eye-opener,” he said. “Like being sent back ten centuries in time. Every way I turned presented a new vista, a new view.”

The Croton Falls resident is a photo bug so he was able to capture many of his impressions for posterity. He has been taking photographs since his childhood. His father bought a new camera back in the ’50’s and Koser “appropriated" it. "I started taking drugstore pictures. When I got into my twenties I set up my own darkroom.”

For 17 years he worked as a professional photographer, specializing in architecture, weddings, events and portraits. Ten years ago he made the switch from traditional photography to digital. “You need some computer experience,” he noted, “but for me it was an easy transition. What used to take eight days in the darkroom now takes minutes on the computer.”

“I tend to take a lot more pictures now,” he said, “because there is no extra expense. I take more and I reject more.”

Richard Koser’s “18 Hours Away in Travel and Ten Centuries Back in Time,” was on exhibit at the Ruth Keeler Library, Titicus Road, during the month of June.
