Police are still searching for the identity of a mans body found by the equestrian riding trail in North Salems Gaymark Preserve, but do not believe the person who died met with foul play.
Based on the initial autopsy that was performed yesterday, there doesnt appear to be any criminal activity, as far as being shot, stabbed or hit with a blunt instrument, said Bureau of Criminal Investigation detective Brian Dedusevic of the New York State Police.
The man was found Sunday afternoon, about 2:30 p.m. The body was in a prone position near a tree, about 150 yards from the road, said Dedusevic, who works at the Somers barracks.
The detective said the man stood about five foot, five inches tall, had dirty-blond and grey hair, a receding hairline, upper dentures and two canine teeth filled with gold. He was found wearing dark blue-gray Nautica Cargo shorts, a black belt with two holes in the middle, and Fruit of the Loom dark blue-gray boxer shorts. He was shirtless and barefoot and was found with no identification and wore no jewelry. Police emphasized they are not characterizing the death as a homicide and are focusing on learning the mans identity.
Its not a homicide investigation, said Dedusevic. He could have died of natural causes.
Authorities are waiting for forensic results, hoping to learn more about the circumstances of the mans death. Investigators are canvassing local residents and businesses.
Dedusevic is new to the area himself, but has learned that you have a very tight knit community here, he said.. And nobody knows him. If he were a local, somebody would have known him.
