“It is a difficult time we are going through with TJ’s cancer treatment, and Friends of Karen’s support has made a big difference in our life,” wrote one mom.

“The kids loved the supplies they got and now they cannot wait to go back to school!”

Friends of Karen provides individualized support for each member of a family. Through personal advocacy from a team of experienced professionals, they carefully guide the family through the turmoil that comes from their child’s illness. During the summer, they collect donations of school supplies and gift cards to relieve parents of one more thing to worry about when they are consumed with caring for their sick child.

“This year, we’ll help more than 850 children get ready to start the school year,” says Judith Factor, Friends of Karen’s executive director.

“It’s the compassion of so many wonderful people in our community who come together to make this special effort successful.”

Friends of Karen is asking for donations of new school supplies, especially backpacks and $25 gift cards to Macy’s, Old Navy or Target. Donations can be shipped or brought to Friends of Karen’s headquarters (118 Titicus Road, North Salem, N.Y.). Cash donations are also greatly appreciated.

“It is good to know that there are people out there who care for other people in need,” wrote TJ’s mom.

“Thank you for your generosity to my family.”
