NORTH SALEM, N.Y. -- The Saks family continues to hold out hope that Indy, their missing wallaby, will return home.

Sightings of Indy, who went missing from his Titicus Road home on March 21 , continue to be reported to Susan and Warren Saks, who care for Indy in North Salem.

Susan said Indy, who is 6, was recently spotted only two houses away.

"It's unbelievable he could be so close and not come home," Saks said.

Indy has been spotted throughout Northern Westchester, including in Waccabuc and at Four Winds Hospital in Cross River.

"Someone who didn't know he was missing called police and said 'you'll never believe what I just saw,'" Saks said. "He's Northern Westchester's wallaby."

Indy tends to travel early in the morning at dawn and is also active in the mid-afternoon.

"He loves being outside," Saks said. "That's probably what saved him. We are still hopeful. He hasn't been bitten by a tick or eaten anything he shouldn't have."

Saks said Indy can travel up to 35 miles an hour which has probably saved him dogs. Having access to water has also kept him alive, Saks believes.

"He's a survivor," Saks said. "We just want him home. I am miffed he was two homes down and did not come home."

Saks said Indy loves to play tag and can recognize colors. He also loves the summer and enjoys lying out in the sun.

Aside from eating kangaroo dry food, Indy eats wheat thins, almonds, rice cakes, apples, lettuce, dry maple leaves and sweet potatoes. Wallabys generally live three or four years in the wild, due to predators.

The Saks family adopted Indy after their son rescued him from someone upstate who was bringing Indy around to schools.
