Damage but no Injuries in North Salem House Fire

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. -Nobody was injured but a home was severely damaged in a fire Monday morning on June Road.

Firefighters were called to a structure fire at 30 June Road in North Salem at 10:20 a.m. Monday. The homeowner, who reported the fire, was safely outside of the building when firefighters arrived, said Jason Blauvelt, second assistant chief of the Croton Falls Fire Department.

Blauvelt said the fire was through the cedar wood roof when they arrived. There was a fire in the first floor fireplace with an extension into the house and a heavy fire behind the wall of the master bedroom.

“We were lucky to get a good stop by the firemen considering the size of the house. We made an aggressive attack and the fire was knocked down in 20, 25 minutes,” Blauvelt said.

About 60 percent of the log cabin style house was damaged, the majority of which is smoke and water damage on the second floor, he added.

The origin and cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Around 75 firefighters responded including the Croton Falls Fire Department and the fire departments of Brewster, South Salem, Golden’s Bridge, Somers, Bedford Hills, Yorktown, Mahopac, Vista, Pound Ridge and Ridgefield, CT. The North Salem Ambulance Corps was also at the scene.
