Adinolfi charged truck drivers $75 per load to dump the debris on residential property in the Carmel area, according to the office of Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman. Bank records show that Adinolfi’s company, Dirtman Enterprises Inc., was paid more than $300,000 for operating these illegal landfills in 2010 and 2011.
The New York watershed provides 1.2 billion gallons of drinking water to nearly half of the state's population every day, Schneiderman said.
Materials from the sites have eroded and discharged into nearby waters, including the Croton Falls Reservoir.
State Supreme Court Justice Robert A. Neary sentenced Adinolfi to four months in prison, five years of probation and a fine of $7,500.
Adinolfi is also the defendant in a civil lawsuit, which has not yet come to trial.
