"The bridge will not be completed by the middle of October as I was originally told," Lucas stated in a post to the NorthSalemNYinfo Facebook page. "The county is currently looking at the end of October to reopen two lanes. It will still have work that needs to be done and that will be finished next year if all goes well."
Overhaul work on the bridge -- which is near the borders with Somers, Carmel and Southeast -- has reduced traffic from two lanes to one. The work has been under the purview of Westchester County.
Lucas also said the construction crew has had issues with the bridge's base.
"The county has run into problems with the base of the bridge," he said. "They installed new footings and an arch on one side to support the pedestrian access walkway. The older bridges had a cement arch that they were reusing and pouring new cement over. As it turns out, after just recently taking the covering off and exposing the cement they found that some of the concrete is bad and needs replacing."
