Croton Falls, 8:00 p.m. -- No Deluge or High Wind

It was business as usual on Wednesday in Croton Falls despite a warning from the National Weather Service that a tornado might be on the way.

After witnessing the devastation wrought in Missouri, some New Yorkers feared we might be in for much of the same. Mother Nature has chosen to smile on Croton so far. The ten minutes of rain at about four o’clock was just enough to refresh local gardens. The skies soon reverted to bright and there was even a little sunshine. The drivers at Al’s Car Service in Croton Falls had heard nothing about the threat. Commuters arriving from Grand Central on the 6:05 p.m. were also largely unaware. Bruno Gandolfi of Mahopac said, “A tornado? I’m not ready for a tornado. Though now that you mention it, it’s pretty muggy.”Even the neighborhood horses and dogs, who always seem to sense an oncoming weather disturbance, were placid and unconcerned. The Tornado Watch ends at 8 p.m. So far it is simply hot and humid here -- in other words, it is a typical June day.
