NORTH SALEM, N.Y. Someone damaged the lock to the parking payment box at the Croton Falls train station, apparently by filling it with some type of glue, according to North Salem police.
North Salems traffic officer discovered the damage last week when he tried to empty the machine. The lock was in good working order on the previous collection day, he said. Putnam Locksmiths were called to repair the damage.
The following items also were reported by North Salem police:
Abandoned vehicle: A car was abandoned on Purdys Field in Purdys before 10:15 a.m. Wednesday. Sgt. Andrew Brown found a note pinned to the windshield indicating the car was disabled. Brown located the registered owner of the vehicle, who put him in touch with the driver. The driver said the vehicle would be removed before the end of the day. A later check proved it had been removed.
Harassment at the high school: The father of a North Salem High School student reported that his daughter had been threatened and intimidated by three youths Friday evening when she attended the Salem Fest activities at the school. He said it had been an ongoing problem for his family at the school and asked police to document the incident. Officer Paul Smith of the North Salem Police Force and Trooper Civelo of the New York State Police responded and made a note of the information provided.
