Car Accident Leads to Discovery of Wanted Suspect

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - At about 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, a car driven by a 43-year-old woman from Queens was involved in an accident near the intersection of Titicus River Road and Route 22. Police discovered there was a New York City criminal warrant out for the driver on a charge of endangering the welfare of a child.

The following items were also reported by local police:

On July 22, North Salem Police responded to a report of a disabled vehicle near the Westchester Exceptional Children’s School. An elderly woman from New York City was stranded with a passenger for about an hour. It was an extremely hot day, so police took the women to the cooling facility on Daniel Road and arranged to have the car towed.

At about noon on July 28, neighbors on Nash Road got into a dispute over a fallen tree limb. The limb fell from one property onto a neighboring property and there was disagreement about which person was responsible for removal. Police advised the residents to consult the civil court. The North Salem building inspector also came to the scene.

On July 26, a deer was struck by a moving vehicle on Hardscrabble Road at about 12:30 p.m. The car was slightly damaged. The injured deer left the area.

On July 29, police were summoned to Exit 8 of Route 684, when a motorist called 911 because her five-year-old daughter had inserted a pistachio nut into her own nose. When the officer arrived he found that the mother had been able to remove the nut herself. An offer of medical treatment was refused.

North Salem Police responded to several burglar alarms during the last week of July. On July 22 at about 2:05 p.m. they were called to a home on Titicus Road. On July 23 at 4:44 p.m. they were called to a home on Hardscrabble Road and were summoned again to the same home at 9:20 p.m. On July 24 police were called to Mills Road at 12:20 a.m. and on July 26 they responded to an alarm on Westview Avenue at about 5:10 p.m. In all cases the premises were checked by police and found to be secure.
