SOUTH SALEM, N.Y. -- North Salem residents and well known musicians Misha and Cipa Dichter will perform a series of piano pieces including works by Schubert:, Brahms, Bizet and Dvorak, as part of The Sanctuary Series on Sunday, April 24.
The threads running through much of the program are a celebration of the dance and of the influences of Hungarian/Slavic music, explained Misha. "Our first half is a work by Schubert with a decidedly Hungarian flavor, indeed, it's titled 'Divertissement à la Hongroise,' followed by five Brahms Hungarian Dances. The links between the two works should be most apparent.
"The second half is pure joy: five of Bizet's 'Children's Games' followed by the complete opus 46 Dvorak 'Slavonic Dances.'"
The two, he said, adore playing for their friends and neighbors, as they've done for some 30 years at Caramoor.
"To anyone wondering what it's like to play concerts with your spouse, I would suggest thinking about how it might feel playing doubles tennis with her on your side and then multiply that by a thousand," he said.
The couple's duet recitals and performances with major orchestras throughout the world have repeatedly been noted for bringing new life to the duo piano repertoire, including neglected works and world premieres.
The Sanctuary Series is held at South Salem Presbyterian Church, 111 Spring Street, (914) 763-9282.
The performance is at 3 p.m.; go HERE for ticket information.
