NORTH SALEM, N.Y. Photographers, here's your chance. You're invited to submit pieces of your work for the upcoming juried competition A Day in the Life of North Salem, sponsored by the North Salem Open Land Foundation. The show is open to town residents, students at North Salem schools and foundation members, including non-residents.
The goal is to capture the essence of North Salem, says Gloria Stein, foundation director. Its pretty open-ended. They can be exterior shots, interior shots, or any subject as long as its set in North Salem."
The idea for the biannual show came from the Day in the Life book series, where leading photojournalists set out to capture the life of a nation in a single day. The best photographs were selected for a traveling exhibit and published in a series of books by Rick Smolan and David Elliot Cohen.
Submissions can be black and white or color and horizontal or vertical. They can be no larger than 14 x16 inches, and all photos must be framed and ready for hanging.
This years jurors are the prestigious photographers Jodi Buren and Steve Krongard, who live locally with their son.
The public will be asked to choose its favorites, and the top three winners will receive prizes. First prize, a dinner for two at North Salems new Farmer and the Fish restaurant, was donated by the owners.
Entries may be delivered to the Ruth Keeler Library on Saturday, June 2, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The exhibit will be on display at the library June 4-29. An artists reception is scheduled for Sunday, June 10, from 3 to 5 p.m. The competition is made possible by the support of Hudson Property Advisors, LLC, a real estate appraisal and consulting company based in Mount Kisco.
