NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - Screening to identify problems such as blocked arteries, irregular heart rhythm, abdominal aortic aneurysms, hardening of the leg arteries and diminished bone density will be offered by Life Line Screening, an organization devoted to preventive medical analysis. The screening is intended to detect early symptoms of the risks of stroke or bone fractures and osteoporosis.
The organizations press release states, Stroke is the third leading cause of death and a leading cause of permanent disability. Eighty percent of stroke victims have no apparent warning signs. Preventive ultrasound screenings can help you avoid a stroke. Screenings are fast, noninvasive and painless.
Regional Coordinator Mary Wilkinson explains that the usual medical insurance does not cover these screenings, because insurance carriers usually require that the disease be in an active stage.
The procedure for five screenings takes between 60 and 90 minutes. Packages start at $149. Pre-registration is required. For more information or to schedule an appointment call 1-877-237-1287 or go to website.
The screenings will be given at the North Salem Ambulance Corps, 14 Daniel Road, North Salem on Thursday, December 15, starting at 9 a.m. As of Friday, December 9, 35 people had signed up. There are 17 spaces still available.
