What To Do In And Around North Salem This Weekend

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – Many holiday events kick off the season this weekend in the North Salem area.

Friday, Nov. 30

Caregivers’ Coffee & Chat: 10:30 a.m. This new program for nannies, au pairs, moms, dads, grandparents and other caregivers will continue every Friday. Relax a while, have a cup of coffee or tea and meet other caregivers. It’s at the Ruth Keeler Memorial Library, 276 Titicus Road, North Salem.

Early School Dismissals: North Salem’s Middle and High Schools will dismiss at 10:30 a.m. The Pequenakonck School will dismiss at 11:30 a.m.

Book Fair: 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. This is the final day of the PTA’s weeklong book fair that began on Monday at the North Salem Middle/High School. Buy books, posters, gift items, spirit wear and get free gift wrapping for whatever you buy. The North Salem Middle/High School is at 230 June Road, North Salem.

Quiver, Quaver: 1:30 to 4 p.m. A two-part workshop and lecture about essential tremor, a neurological disorder that causes hands to shake, heads to bob and voices to quaver. The first part will center on tai chi instruction with expert George Chen. The second part will be a discussion among attendees with a Q&A session. There is no charge but a $10 donation is requested for the tai chi session. It’s at the Somers Library,  82 Primrose St. in Reis Park.

25th Annual Hall of Fame Game and Induction Ceremony: 7 p.m. This is the rescheduled date for the annual basketball game between faculty and alumni, plus the induction of five new members into the Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony is at 7 p.m. The basketball game follows. It’s at the North Salem Middle/High School, 230 June Road.

Saturday, Dec. 1

Holiday Share: All day. St. Joseph’s Parish Food Pantry will collect food for the needy on Saturday and Sunday. Especially requested are butter cookies in tins, cake mixes, flour and sugar, coffee (instant or ground), tea bags (small boxes), hot chocolate, fruit juices (64 oz.), hot and cold cereal, tuna, canned meat (chili, beef stew, chicken), dry beans, white rice and baby food. St. Joseph’s Church is at 10 Croton Falls Road, Croton Falls.

Sunday, Dec. 2

Holiday Share: All day. This is the final day of St. Joseph’s current food collection for the needy. Especially requested are butter cookies in tins, cake mixes, flour and sugar, coffee (instant or ground), teabags (small boxes), hot chocolate, fruit juices (64 oz.), hot and cold cereal, tuna, canned meat (chili, beef stew, chicken), dry beans, white rice and baby food. Tinsel Time: 1 to 3 p.m. Bring the whole family to make holiday decorations and ornaments for your own tree or the Muscoot Farm evergreen. Materials are supplied. It’s at Muscoot Farm, Route 100, 1½ miles south of Route 35 in Somers.

Caring for Holiday Plants: 2 p.m. Stop and shop at the Lasdon gift shop and learn how to take care of holiday plants and how to keep your indoor plants thriving throughout the winter. Lasdon Park and Arboretum is on Route 35 in Somers.

Wreath-Making: 3 p.m. Bring your family to the annual wreath-making event at St. Joseph’s Bittner Hall. The charge is $25 per family, and includes one wreath, materials and beverages. Please bring a dessert to be shared at the table. St. Joseph’s Church is at 10 Croton Falls Road, Croton Falls.

Handel’s Messiah: 3 p.m. The first annual Messiah Sing-a-long will be presented by the Westchester Oratorio Society at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 331 Route 100, Somers. Admission is $10 per person. Bring your own Schirmer score if you have one.

3rd Annual Croton Creek Tree-Lighting: 6 p.m. Join Frosty the Snowman and the Croton Creek Victorian Carolers for the annual tree-lighting ceremony at the Croton Creek Steakhouse and Wine Bar. Please bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate to Toys for Tots. The Croton Creek Steakhouse is at 4 West Cross Street, Croton Falls.
