What To Do Around North Salem This Weekend

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – International music, outdoor activities, autumn celebrations and a big reunion are coming up this weekend. For more things going on around North Salem, see our Events page.

Friday, Sept. 28

Homecoming Celebration: 5 p.m. Festivities begin with the North Salem High School Dodgeball Tournament, followed by the Athletic Pep Rally at 7:45 p.m. Fireworks begin at 8:45 p.m. 

Saturday, Sept. 29

Homecoming Celebration Continues: All day. Athletic contests will continue through the day at North Salem High School, 230 June Road, North Salem.

Family Fun Day: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bring your family and friends to this fun-filled day, featuring a bounce house, face painting, raffles, games, a Chinese auction, food and entertainment. It’s at the Westchester Exceptional Children’s School, 520 Route 22, North Salem.

Purdys Central High School Reunion Weekend: The weekend kicks off on Saturday at 1 p.m., with self-guided tours around the old schoolhouse. A buffet dinner and social start at 6 p.m. at the Danbury Ethan Allen Hotel. The weekend festivities continue on Sunday with an afternoon buffet and social at the Two Steps Downtown Grille in Danbury from 2 to 6 p.m. Tickets are $60 for Saturday (cash bar), $25 for Sunday (cash bar) and $85 for both days. Walk the Titicus Dam: 1 p.m. Access to the Titicus Dam is allowed only by special permit, but the North Salem Historical Society gained permission from the New York Department of Environmental Protection for this once-a-year visit. Participation is limited to members, but trial family memberships will be available for $5 at the event. No pets are allowed. For further information, go to northsalemhistoricalsociety@gmail.com

Hao Bang Ya, Dragon! 1 to 3 p.m. The Hammond Museum is celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival with scenes from Chinese Opera, face painting and lantern decorating for kids and a medley of Chinese snacks. The cost is $25 for a family up to four, $5 for each additional person. The Hammond Museum is at 28 Deveau Road, North Salem.

Sunday, Sept. 30.

Farmers Market: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fresh produce, meats, cheese, soaps, candles, honey, maple syrup, flowers, fish and delicacies from local farmers and artisans are available. The Muscoot Farmers Market will continue every Sunday through October. Muscoot Farm is on Route 100, 1½ miles south of Route 35 in Somers.

An Old-Fashioned Halloween: 1 to 3 p.m. Create your own traditional halloween decorations under the guidance of Muscoot Farm personnel. Materials will be supplied. Muscoot Farm, Route 100, 1½ miles south of Route 35 in Somers.

Purdys Central High School Reunion Weekend: 2 to 6 p.m. The multi-class reunion of Purdys graduates concludes on Sunday with an afternoon buffet and casual social at the Two Steps Downtown Grille, 5 Ives St., Danbury.
