Prior to the walk, 81 percent of that goal had been collected, and more donations are coming in. The annual walk benefits the Greater New York Chapter of ALS Association, an organization helping to fund research and support people with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), which is often referred to as Lou Gehrig's disease.
The nearly 100-member Win The Fight team was the top team, bringing in close to $40,000 in fundraising. For a list of teams and participants, visit the walk's website.
Also Sunday, Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino proclaimed the day Dorine Gordon Day in Westchester County to honor Gordon, president of the Greater New York Chapter and one of the chapter's founders. She was recognized for her tireless work for the organization over the past 25 years.
George Oros, Astorino's chief of staff, presented the proclamation to Gordon at the Sunday event.
