NORTH SALEM, N.Y. Internationally acclaimed concert pianist Helene Grimaud will perform at North Salems Hammond Museum on Saturday, Oct. 27, for the benefit of the North Salem Open Land Foundation.
Grimaud has a reputation as a powerful interpreter of classical composers and described by The New Yorker as a rubato artist, a reinventor of phrasing, a taker of chances.
She began recording at the age of 15, said the magazine, and has been turning out CDs for 25 years, in addition to playing 100 concerts a year. She has recorded with conductor Claudio Abbado, opera mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie van Otter and conductor Kurt Masur, among others.
Grimaud was also the moving force behind South Salems Wolf Conservancy and has often donned work gloves and boots to assist the staff and play with the wolf pups.
The North Salem Open Land Foundation is devoted to preserving the natural beauty and character of the area by acquiring tracts of land that can remain free of development and exploitation. Among the foundations 23 preserves are the Baxter Preserve, the Graymark Nature Preserve and the Keeler Preserve.
The benefit at the Hammond begins with a champagne reception at 7:30 p.m., followed by the Grimaud concert at 8:30 p.m. Festive attire is suggested. Tickets cost $250 to $500, with admission tickets plus program listings available for up to $5,000. The Hammond Museum is located at 28 Deveau Road, North Salem.
