Swim Across America (SAA) is a nationwide fundraising strategy for cancer awareness and research. All you do is find some sponsors to back you as an individual or as part of a team. You can join other volunteers to form a team, form your own team with friends and/or family, or face the challenge on your own. When it comes to finding sponsors, said Mary Cate Devey of the organizing committee, “It’s hard to find someone who hasn’t been affected by cancer.”
Swimmers can choose between a mile, a half-mile or a relay. Participants get a shirt, a towel, a bathing cap and breakfast. Last year’s swimmers ranged in age from six to 69, swam a total of 40 miles, and raised over $15,000. Signing up before June 1 will get your name in the SAA 21st Anniversary program.
The Lakeside Field Club is on Brookside Lane at Peach Lake, North Salem. For more information about the event, contact Deirdre Coughlin, Courtney Robin, Mary Cate Devey, Tracy Inall or Bethann McGrath at the Lakeside Field Club, (914) 669-9639.
