NORTH SALEM, N.Y. -- This year's baseball tournament to honor two North Salem boys who were killed during Hurricane Sandy kicks off Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Volunteer Park.
The annual tournament is held in honor of 11-year-old Jack Baumler and 13-year-old Michael Robson who were killed after a tree fell on the Baumler home during the hurricane in October 2012.
"The boys come from different teams across the area and all are proud to put on the Baumler/Robson jerseys," said team coach Ken Mahoney. "It's all about keeping their names alive. It doesn't matter whether we win or lose.'
This year, Will Balmier, Jack's brother, is a starting pitcher on the team, Mahoney added, saying that made the game all the more special.
The tournament schedule include tomorrow's game at 3:30 p.m. at Volunteer Park on June Road just north of the High School and at 11 a.m. p.m. Oct. 10; times for the games scheduled for Oct. 17 and Oct. 24 will be announced at later date.
