Restaurants Serve Up Thanksgiving Menus In North Salem Area

SOMERS, N.Y. — If you can't deal with the stress of holiday meal prep or want to celebrate out of the house, here's a roundup of restaurants taking reservations for Thanksgiving Day dinner in the Somers/North Salem area that will dish up turkey and fixings for you:

• Somerfields in Somers has a special turkey dinner for $25.95 that includes turkey, prime rib and/or lobster tails, traditional Thanksgiving sides such as stuffing and mashed potatoes, a choice of soup or salad and a dessert. To reserve a table, call 914-276-3071.

• 121 Restaurant in North Salem is serving an upscale Thanksgiving dinner. The full menu on its website includes dishes such as roasted butternut squash soup, roast turkey with cranberry chutney, prime rib, pumpkin ravioli and homemade apple, pecan and pumpkin pies served with Soco Creamery ice cream. Call 914-669-0121 to reserve a table.

• Although it is not open Thanksgiving Day, new local food restaurant Farmer and the Fish in Purdys has takeout Thanksgiving fare available, including whole farm fresh turkeys, hams and a menu of traditional sides, some of which incorporate vegetables and herbs grown right on the property. Email marc@farmerandthefish.com or call 914-617-8380 to place an order. Orders will be available for pickup Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Thursday from 6 a.m. to noon. And here, the Farmer and the Fish's kitchen shares a recipe for cheese popovers that the restaurant makes daily. 

• Seasons in Somers is open from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday and has an a la carte menu available that features eight appetizers, including turkey crepes and pumpkin seed salad, and 12 entrees, including duck and sausage pizza, a traditional turkey plate and stuffed cornish hen. To make a reservation, call 914-276-0600.

And below is a recipe for Seasons restaurant's own butternut squash soup:

Serves 4 to 6 people Ingredients: 2 pounds of butternut squash 2 tablespoons of butter 1 teaspoon of cinnamon 1/2 cup of sugar 4 cups of water 2 cups of heavy cream

Step 1: Peel and dice the butternut squash into small cubes. Step 2: Mix the butternut squash and the butter in a medium-size pot until brown (about 5 minutes at high heat). Step 3: Add the sugar, cinnamon and water. Step 4: Cook for 30 minutes or until squash is soft. Step 5: Add heavy cream. Step 6: Let mixture come to a boil at medium heat for about 5 minutes. Step 7: Puree in a food processor or blender. Step 8: Serve!
