NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – The owner of North Salem’s Union Hall is asking the Board of Appeals to grant a variance to the building’s tenant, the General Store, to allow the sale of fresh coffee and tea and related items.

“I have what is considered a ‘specialty store,’ which allows me to sell specialty items such as special cheeses and soaps, candles, and gift items. But I am not allowed to sell things like local produce, freshly cut flowers and brewed coffee or tea," Jane Beltz, owner of the General Store said. "I feel that if I offered this sort of thing, it would be a wonderful convenience for the community and it would fulfill the true meaning of a general store.”

The public is invited to attend the public hearing of the North Salem Board of Appeals, scheduled for Thursday, May 9, starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Town Hall Annex, 274 Titicus Road.
