Child Under 13 Sexually Abused For Years, Man From Region Charged A man from the region has been charged with predatory sexual assault of a child following an investigation by New York State Police. Sullivan County resident Lavaun Weir, age 31, of Monticello, was arrested on Thursday, July 13, said Trooper Steven Nevel. Nevel said an investigation revealed Weir engaged in deviant sexual conduct with a child less than 13 years old and the abuse occurred over several years.  As a result, Weir was charged with predatory sexual assault of a child, a felony. Traffic Stop In Region Leads To Drug Bust, 3 Arrested, State Police Say Two men and a juvenile were charged with possession of a controlled substance after state police found more than three pounds of marijuana and cocaine during a traffic stop. The bust took place in Sullivan County around 3 p.m., Wednesday, May 31 in the town of Liberty during a stop for traffic violations. According to Trooper Steven Nevel, during the stop, the driver of a 2006 Honda Accord, identified as Nicholas P. Area Man Charged With Strangling Woman To Death, Police Say A man from the area has been charged with the murder of a woman who had been strangled to death. Sullivan County resident Joseph Detzauer, age 37, of Fallsburg, was arrested on Wednesday, Jan. 12, for the murder of Marilyn Torres, age 61, also of Fallsburg on Sunday, Jan. 9, said the New York State Police. Troopers responded to a residence on Loch Sheldrake Road in the town of Falls around 1:45 p.m., for a report of domestic violence. Two Charged After Dogs Found Starved To Death, Cats Emaciated At Home In Hudson Valley State Police are investigating an animal cruelty case after two pit bulls were found starved to death with two emaciated cats at a Hudson Valley home. Two pet owners have been identified during the investigation; Miesha Bentley, age 28, and Victoriano Moreira, age 28, both of Loch Sheldrake. Police say Bentley and Moreira agreed to look after the animals after their former owners could no longer care for them due to new apartment regulations.
