A former New Jersey broker-dealer agent from Rockland County had his registration revoked and was fined $150,000 for steering clients to a Hudson Valley tequila startup whose founder went to federal prison. Michael W. Mandel of Suffern sold the securities in the form of ownership interests in "6 Degree Tequila" via unauthorized private transactions, state Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin said. A 22-year-old motorist from Rockland County avoided a frightful fate after a crash ignited a ferocious fire that quickly engulfed her Jeep. The motorist didn't have much time after her Patriot slammed into a utility pole in Old Tappan on Westwood Avenue between Stone Point Park and Washington Avenue South. Rockland Patron Assaults Old Tappan Restaurant Employee Over Request For Water, Police Say
A Rockland man surrendered to police who charged him with beating a worker at a Bergen County Italian restaurant, authorities said. Luca Saggio, 46, of Stony Point, asked the passing Bosfa Restaurant employee for water and didn’t like the response, witnesses told responding officers, Old Tappan Police Chief Joseph J. Tracy said. Saggio then “followed the employee into the kitchen of the restaurant and punched him in the head,” Tracy said. The employee suffered “a significant injury to his eye and head area,” the chief said. Driver Dead, SUV Found In Hackensack River In River Vale
A popular Hillsdale firefighter was found dead in his SUV Thursday in the upper Hackensack River in River Vale, the apparent victim of a heart attack. John Inserra, 48, was married with three young children -- two boys and a girl. He coached and was extremely active in local youth sports, including softball and wrestling. Propane Gas Leak At Storage Tank On Route 303 Causes Road Closures
A stretch of Route 303 was shut down for several hours in Rockland County as first responders dealt with a leaking propane storage tank, police said. First responders were dispatched to the Beckerle Lumber Supply Company on Route 303 in Orangeburg shortly after 1:50 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17. Upon arrival, it was determined that a large propane storage tank that is used to fill smaller propane tanks was leaking gas. Three Nabbed For Mob Gambling Ring In Area, DA Says
Three area men have been nabbed for running an illegal gambling ring and money laundering operation in Rockland County that took in more a $1 million. The three men, John Andriello, 66, of Pearl River; Marco Minuto, 60, of Old Tappan, New Jersey, and Brian Levine, 49, of Garnerville, were arrested Friday, Jan. 11, according to Acting Rockland County District Attorney Kevin Gilleece. Police: Dominican College Van Thief Chased From Blauvelt To NJ
A driver who stole a van from Dominican College in Blauvelt led police on a chase before he was stopped and arrested in New Jersey, authorities said. Not officially identified yet by police, the man was booked into the Bergen County Jail as Rah Ralla, 19, records show.
